Credentialed by the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.) and certified as a Fitness and Nutrition Specialist, Jack Mapes combines weight reduction, muscle development, flexibility, and aerobic exercise with targeted attention on healthy nutrition to create a personalized regimen to achieve targeted goals. With seven years of professional experience, he has honed his services to include one-on-one personal training, nutrition counseling and meal planning, group fitness classes, and topic-specific workshops to educate and inform on a variety of issues for living a life of wellness.

"My training philosophy is pretty cut and dry," Mapes says. "I work with my clients fully intent on working myself out of a job. If someone is dependent on my services, I tell myself I must not be doing something right." Healthy living doesn't happen in the hour at the gym where he has complete control of weights, reps, and duration. He also aims to arm clients with tools for the other 23 hours of each day filled with choices and decisions that really create failure or success. A series of progressive goals and tasks each day, each week, and each month are part of the road to reaching durable fitness goals.

Born in Torrance and raised in San Pedro, Mapes honed his athletic skills in school sports and expresses his competitive spirit today training for bodybuilding competitions. Even though the art and science of a chiseled physique have been corrupted by the scourge of illegal or banned substances, Mapes distinguishes his interests by strictly adhering to the rules and conventions of natural bodybuilding: drug-free and non-enhanced.

Health and fitness is of particular importance to Mapes not only because it is what he does for a living but it's something he must be conscious of in order to keep on living. A diabetic for more than half his life, he combines good sleep hygiene, fresh and healthy nutrition, weight training, and daily aerobic exercise to keep his blood sugar at acceptable levels. His personal challenges with his own health issues make him an ideal trainer for others managing chronic illness and for whom Mapes tailors specific lifestyle regimens. "Give me someone who cares about themselves with a genuine drive to live a healthier life, and we'll develop a nutrition and fitness program to achieve the results they're looking for."
